JHAL MURI(MAMRA/PUFFED RICE)

Jhal
Muri is one of the most famous Bengali street snack. This is one of the popular
through out the India too. Stir Fried Spicy Masala Muri (Mamra)/Spicy Masala
Puffed Rice (Traditionally plain white muri/mamra used and couple of teaspoons
of Mustard oil is added to mix all spices) is mixed with raw salad vegetables
(tomato, onion, cucumber, carrot or any other vegetables like mango, green/red/yellow/orange
bell pepper) and boiled sprout beans, boiled potatoes, kala chana, coriander,
green chili and dry spices.
It
keeps you fuller longer then having spicy mamra alone and jhal muri is very
healthy too.
INGREDIENTS
FOR JHAL MURI: Serves 2
NOTE: IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO
HAVE ALL THE VEGETABLES TO MAKE JHAAL MURI.USE WHICHEVER VEGETABLES ARE
AVAILABLE
· 2 cups Spicy Masala Muri (Mamra)/Puffed Rice (MUST HAVE) (I used spicy masala muri/mamra)
OR
Plain White muri/mamra (I did not use white muri/mamra)
· 1 cup Sev (Fried besan sev)
· 2 T Sprout Moong, boiled OR
2 T Kala Chana, boiled
· 2 T Fried Peanuts (MUST
HAVE FOR CRUNCH)
· 2 T Fried Chana Dal
· 2 T Boiled Potato, dices
· 2 T White sweet onion, diced
(MUST HAVE)
· 2 T Tomato, diced (MUST
HAVE)
· 2 T Carrot, grated
· 1 T Raw mango
· 2 T Cucumber, deseeded and
diced
· 1-2 Green Chilies, chopped
(MUST HAVE)
· Salt as per taste
· Cumin powder, couple of pinches
· Chat masala, couple of
pinches
· Kashmiri Red Chili Powder,
couple of pinches
· 1-2 Sprigs Of Coriander Leaves,
chopped (MUST HAVE)
· Fresh lemon Juice (MUST
HAVE)
· 2 tsp. Mustard Oil
(OPTIONAL) I did not use.
LET’S
MIX:
Heat
teaspoon oil in a small pan and stir fry peanuts on medium-low heat until
crunchy. Keep aside.
Chop
all vegetables in salad chopper and keep aside.
In
a bowl mix all ingredients. Save some cumin powder, chat masala, red chili
powder and coriander leaves to sprinkle on top.
Squeeze
fresh lemon juice and mix.
Transfer
in a serving plate.
Sprinkle
cumin powder, chat masala, Kashmiri red chili powder and chopped coriander
leaves on top.
Serve
immediately.
